This Moorabbin pool had been sitting neglected for some time before this job started — stagnant water, failing old tiles, and a surface well past its working life. The brief was a full restoration: drain, strip, waterproof, and re-tile in dark blue glass mosaics from scratch.

Stage One: Assessment

The pool arrived full of stagnant, discoloured water. Before any work could start, it had to be drained and pumped out so the actual condition of the shell and old tiling could be properly assessed.

Stage Two: Strip and Prep

With the pool drained, the full extent of the old surface was visible — worn render, failing grout lines, and a tile band that had seen better days. Everything gets pressure washed back to a clean, sound substrate before any waterproofing goes on.

Stage Three: Waterproofing

A pool shell takes constant water pressure and chemical exposure, so the waterproofing membrane here has to be tougher and fully continuous — no gaps, no shortcuts on corners or fittings. This is the layer that determines whether the whole restoration lasts.

Why Pool Waterproofing Is a Different Job

Constant submersion means the membrane needs full, continuous coverage with zero weak points
Pool chemicals (chlorine, salt systems) demand a compatible, chemical-resistant membrane
Fittings, lights, and returns all need to be properly sealed around, not just tiled over
Any gap in the membrane becomes a leak path under constant water pressure

Stage Four: Tiling in Dark Blue Glass Mosaic

With the membrane cured, tiling started on the walls first, working the glass mosaic sheets around corners, steps, and fittings, before moving on to the floor.

The Finished Pool

Filled and finished, the pool now reads as a single, deep blue surface — a world away from where it started. The dark glass mosaic hides the water line beautifully and will hold up to years of daily use.
