Project Overview
When shopfitter Interior Build Pty Ltd needed a screeding and floor tiling crew for the new SHEIKE store at Galleria Shopping Centre in Morley, Perth, TN Stone packed the tools and flew west. The job: 135 m² of sand-cement screed and floor tiling across a women's fashion tenancy, finished in 300 × 600 mm beige porcelain with a 600 × 600 mm Calacatta Viola marble border.
The full project page, with the scope of works and all photos, is on our SHEIKE portfolio entry.
The Brief
SHEIKE's store design is restrained and tactile — dark timber joinery, polished stainless racks, a stone-clad counter and marble display plinths. The floor had to be warm and quiet under retail lighting, dead flat for the long-format tile, and finished with a natural-stone border that would tie the floor to the counter and joinery without stealing the show. All of it on a shopping-centre fit-out programme where the floor sits on the critical path for every trade that follows.
The Work
- Sand-cement screed — 135 m² laid and levelled to finished floor height, including the threshold to the mall concourse. Our screed method follows the approach in our screed guide for tile flooring.
- Porcelain floor tiling — 300 × 600 mm beige porcelain set out from a laser line and laid in running bond with a levelling system on every joint, so no lippage shows under downlights.
- Calacatta Viola marble borders — 600 × 600 mm pieces forming a continuous perimeter border, returned around the fitting-room pods and the counter, each piece individually bedded flush with the porcelain.
- Stone skirting — the same marble carried up the walls and fitting-room partitions for a continuous line at floor level.
- On-site cutting — a contained wet-saw station inside a live shopping-centre construction zone, with grouting and final clean to hand over.
The Result
Why It Mattered
Retail floors get judged twice: once by the designer on handover, and every day after that by customers walking across them under bright light. A levelling system across the whole floor, not just the edges, is what keeps a 600 mm porcelain edge from telegraphing every small variation in the bed. And a natural-stone border only works if it sits dead flush with the field — which comes down to the screed underneath and bedding each marble piece individually.
It was also an interstate job. The same crew, the same method and the same standard that we bring to Melbourne jobs travelled to Perth without compromise.
Outcome
A flat, continuous floor from the shopfront threshold through to the fitting rooms, with the marble border tying the floor to the counter and joinery exactly as the design intended. A big thank you to Richard, Simon and the whole Interior Build team for the opportunity to be part of this fit-out.
